Biographical details
Randy Kong is currently the Global Engineering Director and Technologist with Microsoft’s Cloud & AI Division in Seattle, which is building the digital infrastructures empowering cloud computing, artificial intelligence, as well as the future quantum computing. Dr. Kong obtained his B.S. in Engineering from Tsinghua University’s Microelectronics Institute.
He was later selected as a CUSPEA (China-US Physics Examination and Application) scholar and obtained his PhD in Physics from the Graduate Center of City University of New York and Brookhaven National Lab. Dr. Kong has about 50 US patents and has consulted for over 40 fortune 500 companies during his tenure with Hewlett-Packard, Amazon Web Service and Microsoft. He is a leader in the research and development of new technology investigation, innovation roadmap planning, and solution realization to address the requirements and needs from device/materials-level to the large complex system-of-system level.
In particular, he has pioneered and deployed industry-leading reliability/availability technology solutions, as well as in areas of applied technology research, often in partnership with U.S. and APAC based universities and industry organizations.
